My friend Ben showed me this thing Tom 7 did on his website (you know that guy who made that one video about the nes and portmanteaus). It was called "Album-A-Day". I loved the idea since I've recorded albums in short periods of times before, I've listened to Volume 2 a ton since Ben showwed it to me, and it's inspired my writing ever since.
Anyways back to the point, so I saw this Album-A-Day thing and got thinking about doing something similar, but I wanted to make it harder (since I hate myself). I would record an album everyday for a week straight, the rules being they had to have at least seven songs (this rule was later changed to six songs because it got HARD). I later asked my friends if they wanted to join (because I hate my friends.... just kidding). And so for a week straight, from May 31st to June 6th in 2024, me and my chums recorded seven grueling albums (although only me and Ben comepleted the whole week,,, SUCKERS!!!).
You can check out the albums here, and check out Ben- I mean, Louis Loon's ablums here. I also made a best of compilation which you can hear here.
caught between two whirring and buzzing realities, her head will start to expand until it explodes is 11 tracks long and has a run time of 21 minutes exactly. The long name was inspired by my other long name album Chairspray (im not typing out the full name). It was recorded on May 31st. The standout track to me is track 2, Train Tracks. It sounds like an early bright eyes tracks, which makes sense because I was listening to tons of 90s bright eyes stuff during the challenge.
RECORDING an album in your CAR is a ONE WAY ticket to indie STARDOM is 6 tracks long and has a run time of 8:11. The title is a jab at car seat headrest, I was super salty towards him because everyone compared my music to his at the time (even though they aren't similar AT ALL). As the title suggests I recorded this album in a car on June 1st under the florida sun with no A.C. This record really sucks, but that's the nature of this challenge!
face the things is 6 tracks long and has a run time of 7:14 (they just keep getting shorter). This album is a spoken word album I made in garageband on June 2nd. It's the only thing I've recorded in garageband. The best thing about it is the album cover.
the streaker is 8 tracks long and has a run time of 10:07 and was recorded on June 3rd. This is a return to form during the challenge, four track stuff. A lot of these songs are really noisy and strange but they have a soft spot in my heart. My favorite tracks is track 4, drops. The last song of this album is a placeholder mr.foster. Instead of playing it, you just play mr.foster and you get a full album called "the streaker and mr.foster"!
mr.foster is 4 tracks long (yikes!) and has a run time of 7:14 (I'm gettin' déjà vu). This is a companion piece to the steaker, as stated before. It was recorded June 4th. My favorite track is old man's cave, although I would like to re-record corriander, I love the riff. The last track on the album is a direct rip-off of An Orchistrations Overture by The Music Tapes. I've always been obsessed with anything related to elephant six, and during this challenge Ben really loved this song so I was listening to it a lot. It's a great song!
it's nice to use binoculars, it's harder to use a mirror is 8 tracks long and has a run time of 18:12 and was recorded on June 5th. This is probably my favorite out of the bunch. It includes an early version of my song Newark, which on american b-sides and is one of my favorite songs I've ever made. This album also includes a lot of great acoustic stuff and one of my favorite samples I've ever included on an album (featured in track 8).
guest check is 6 tracks long and has a run time of 11:44 and was recorded on June 6th. It is a comeplete burnout. I kind of gave up haha. The first two untitled tracks are pretty good though, I like them lots, and it has a good album cover.
